Following a Passion in Education: Doors Opening this Fall!

W&R logoHello, I am Hunter Cluthe, Head of School at William & Reed Academy. I feel honored to be able to share my passion through Chatterbox. Blakeley Clark was one of our first teachers when we opened Johns Creek Tutoring; she is an amazing teacher who understands what it means to connect with her students, and I am proud to call her my colleague and friend.

My 20-year teaching career began by teaching high school math and has now evolved into opening William & Reed Academy, a private school grades 6 through 12 in Johns Creek. I could not be more proud and excited about the quality of education and opportunities that we are offering families in the North Fulton, Forsyth, and Gwinnett areas. My passion to teach has always been fueled by connecting with students. Yes, I enjoy teaching math, but the magic in a classroom happens when students connect with their teacher and get excited about ideas and solving problems. To me, there is nothing more satisfying than an engaged room of learners who are offering their ideas and insight. This can only happen when the teacher has created an academically safe environment for students to have a voice.

For years, I have seen class size grow, teachers get discouraged, and students get lost in the shuffle. It is heartbreaking to see students walk the halls dragging their feet while looking defeated. The most tragic part is that many students do not feel comfortable sharing their ideas or speaking up in class; they simply do not have a voice.

My passion and vision for William & Reed Academy is to give students a personalized educational experience that truly prepares students to be independent thinkers, to recognize their strengths, and to develop confidence, both personally and academically. My goal is for our students, without sacrificing quality, to have a much more relevant and successful school day and to be completely finished with their academic day (homework included) before other students are getting off the bus. I am proud to have assembled a faculty that shares the philosophy that connecting with students is an integral part of the learning process. We have amazing teachers who know what students need in order to be competitive and successful in college and beyond, and we have created an environment where students love to learn and teachers love to teach.
